Wally Ellenson

Wally attended Rice Lake High School for 3 years, graduating in 2012. During those 3 years he excelled in basketball and track & field. As a basketball player, Wally scored 1356 points, making him the all-time leading scorer at the time. He was selected All State three times, and First Team All-State his junior and senior years. In the spring of his senior year, Wally participated in the American Family Insurance Dunk contest where he placed 3rd in the United States. In track & field, Wally set school records in the triple jump, long jump and the high jump. His sophomore year he placed 3rd in the State in the high jump, and won the State High Jump Championship in both his junior and senior years. Wally’s personal best jump of 7’ 1” was the highest jump in the nation among high school athletes in 2012 and was named High School All American by Track and Field News. Wally attended U of M on a full scholarship to play basketball and participated in high jump for the Gopher’s track & field team. As a freshman, he became a Division I All American when he placed 8th in the NCAA outdoor track meet with a jump of 7’ 2.5”. His sophomore season Wally jumped 7’ 4.5” for a 2nd place finish at the NCAA’s and another All-American honor. He was honored by the Big Ten television network for excellence in basketball and track & field. In 2013, Wally also brought home the gold medal for the Junior Pan American games. Wally transferred to Marquette University where he continued his career in both basketball and track. He currently holds the school records in both the indoor and outdoor high jump. He was the Big East Conference indoor and outdoor champion, setting a conference record of 7’ 3.25” at the indoor meet and being named Outstanding Male Athlete of the Championships. Placing 3rd and 5th at the NCAA’s during his career at Marquette, Wally earned the distinction of being a 4-time Division I All-American. Following college, Wally played professional basketball in Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Argentina and China. Wally and his wife Jessica reside in Lisbon, WI where he is a realtor and the high jumps coach at Bryant and Stratton College.
