It wasn't long after Dave graduated from UW-Eau Claire in 1975 with a major in journalism that Warren Leary, owner and President of the Rice Lake Chronotype Publishing Company drove down to the family farm of Gust Greschner in Prairie farm, to offer Dave a job writing sports for the Chronotype.  It became an award winning union between the two which would last for 45 years thru 2020. He was a 4-year letter-winner in baseball and a 2-year letter-winner in football at Prairie Farm HS, and lettered 2 years in baseball at UW Center-Barron Co.
Dave became the Chronotype's Sports Editor in 1978 and during his tenure received 20 first place State awards from the Wisconsin Newspaper Assn. for sports writing, outdoors reporting, feature writing and photography, in addition to numerous second and third place awards.  He wrote many outstanding weekly articles regarding the Rice Lake sports scene and the surrounding area.
